various instruments

I have a particular fondness for measuring instruments.  This is because some instruments can literally "see", or sense, the world better than our own inherent senses.  For example, a digital camera.  A human eye can see in much higher resolution and dynamic range, but a digital camera can see frequencies we cannot.  To me, that's pretty cool.

CDIP Buoys

I wrote this code (.sp,.xy) to import the various data products from CDIP.  A lot of the CDIP buoys are Datawell directional buoys, which allow for estimating wave directional spectra from 3-dimensional displacements.

The Waimea Bay buoy :)  The deployment photo gallery is pretty cool, especially Jerome doing some blue-water work.

QuikSCAT

I wrote an improved Matlab import function for QuikSCAT data.

Nortek ADCP and Seabird SBE

We deployed many Nortek Profilers (ADCP) and Seabird pressure sensors as part of the PILOT experiment.

Here's a Matlab function for importing Nortek data files.

Phased-Array Doppler Sonar (PADS)

For my second internship I was lucky enough to spend a summer working on PADS data at the Scripps Marine Physical Laboratory.  Seems like a lifetime ago.  Their combination of scientists, engineers, and programmers into a single group was my introduction to proper R & D.
